FAQ Clavicula - Prior to purchase

  1. Can the Clavicula be fitted to my frame?

Considering the great number of bottom bracket standards existing today, we can’t actually speak of a “standard”. The following synopsis of our Service Rubric will provide you with the required support: to the bottom bracket standards

  2. What chainrings do match the Clavicula?

Considering the great number of chainrings of very different quality it is not easy to answer this question. The following table may help you to make the best choice: (see Downloading)

  3. Will Clavicula be available with 180 mm crank length, too?

Considering the very little response we don’t offer in the near future a crank with 180mm lenght.

  4. What clearance has Clavicula MTB triple in the area of the chainstays?

Clavicula MTB has approx. 136 mm clearance in the area of the chainstays (crank arms uncoupled to the rear). Mountain bikes usually have a 110 to 126 mm clearance in this area. On bikes fitted with rigid chainstays a 4 to 5 mm clearance at either side is normally sufficient to prevent the crank and chainstays from bottoming against each other under load. Examples: Scott Scale 2007: 125 mm; Shimano XTR 2007 has 138 mm clearance.

  5. Can the Clavicula be built on a BB30 system?

Considering the bearing distance of only 64.5 mm, the BB30 specification is not just a convenient technical solution. Since spring 2009 is available an adaption of our system by means of cups pressed in from outside which are supporting our bearings over an 85.5 mm width. This will lightly increase the weight of our complete system, but would allow a BB30 frame to be used. (Increase in weight: Road 12 g - MTB 18 g only)

  6. What are the advantages of Hybrid Ceramic bearings?

These bearings have a longer service life and reduced maintenance intervals. Our high-quality Hybrid Ceramic bearings are fitted with high-grade steel rings preventing rust formation liable to speed up wear.

  7. Are Hybrid Ceramic bearings also usable for Clavicula MTB?

Considering the severe shock load caused by this type of use we do not recommend the installation of Hybrid Ceramic bearings on a MTB crank.

  8. Do you offer a carbon version of the cover plate for the installation of the left crank arm ?

No, we do not offer a carbon cover plate.
