FAQ Clavicula - Assembly

  1. Important assembly advice

As some users reported to us the carbon assembly paste recommended in the instruction manual can cause a creaking noise. If this noise should be originated by the left-hand crank, you should remove the paste very thoroughly (e.g. using a brake cleaner) and then install the crank again. In no case should grease be applied to the contact surface.

  2. Why are some pedals very easy to screw in and others with difficulty?

We manufacture with very expensive high-precision screw taps having a very narrow extent of tolerance. We have checked this because the problem with thread tolerances is not new. Pedals available today in the market have considerable tolerances which in many cases exceed the usual extent. The nominal dimension is 14.29 mm, but many pedals have only approx. 14.2 mm and some others not more than 14.00 mm. Deviations can also be found in the other sense with pedals which are very hard to screw in or even get jammed and cannot be released again. We experienced this problem mainly with Time and Look products, whilst Shimano is close to the lower limit (14.10 mm).
Pedals which are easy to screw in will cause no problem, contrary to pedals which tend to get jammed. This is why our manufacturing process is strictly based on the nominal values.

  3. Which dimensions have the bottom brackets of the Clavicula series?

We use industrial bearings sealed at either side; dimension Ø 42 / Ø 30 / width 7 mm.

  4. Can I use the Clavicula dp (double MTB version) in combination with the Rohloff hub?

The chain line of the Rohloff hub has a dimension of 54.5 mm which perfectly matches the Clavicula dp if the outer chainring is fitted with the respective inner ring.

  5. Which deviation in the bottom bracket housing width is permissible?

It might happen that the width of a bottom bracket housing deviates from the nominal dimension. This must be corrected if the deviation is superior to +/- 0.5 mm. If you have queries regarding the correction procedure please do not hesitate to contact us.
